Mary Tmaira

Managing Partner

Mary Tmaira is the Managing Partner of the practice, with over 24 years’ experience as a criminal defence solicitor and more than 20 years as an accredited Duty solicitor. She attends court regularly as an advocate with higher rights of audience, as well as attending police stations to ensure that her clients’ defence is as robust as possible from the outset. Her tenacious input at this early stage often results in matters proceeding no further.

Mary represents clients facing a wide range of criminal proceedings but specialises particularly in fraud, terrorism, serious violence and sexual offences. She regularly defends those facing the most serious of allegations, often achieving results which far exceed her clients’ expectations. In doing so, Mary has gained an excellent reputation with clients and professionals alike, and regularly receives referrals from them. She is particularly skilled in dealing with complex cases involving voluminous pages of evidence which require detailed, technical knowledge.

Mary spent the initial part of her career in London where she became partner and practice manager of a well-known criminal practice, as well as consolidating her reputation as a leading light in the sector. She moved to Luton in 2008, where she continued to represent her London-based clientele, while developing a large and diverse client following across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

Mary is in much demand by both private-paying and LAA funded clients. As a recognised Grade A fee earner and seasoned contract manager with the Legal Aid Agency, she has the right to defend the most serious Very High Cost Cases, which are routinely dealt with at this firm.
